Maximizing Your benefits

Dental insurance and benefits can be confusing, and sadly, insurance plans are transferring more and more of the cost of care to their subscribers. While we have no control over the benefits associated with each specific plan, we can help you understand your benefits and how you can use them in our office. We never want finances to stand in the way of your child receiving the top-notch care and service we provide at Shady Grove Pediatric Dentistry.

We work with a wide range of dental insurance plans within Anthem, Cigna, Delta Dental, DenteMax, GEHA, Guardian, Unicare, United Concordia, United Healthcare, and others.  If your plan is a PPO plan and lets you choose your provider, we can help you use your dental benefits in our office. Even if we are out-of-network with your specific plan, we will submit the claim(s) on your behalf and make the experience hassle-free for you.

We do not participate with any dental HMO plans. If you have an HMO plan, you won't have any insurance benefits in our office and would need to pay our office fees.

If you are uncertain about how to use your insurance benefits at our office, just give us a call, and we'll help you figure it out.

As long as we have all necessary information more than 48 business hours prior to your appointment, we can typically verify your benefits beforehand and can provide you an estimate for your out-of-pocket cost (for most insurance plans). However, there are some insurance plans that take a few weeks to provide cost estimates, so please plan accordingly. Be sure to have your insurance information ready when requesting an appointment.

Dental Insurance Explained

If you have dental insurance, our goal is to help you maximize your benefits. Your dental insurance plan will help reduce the cost of your child's dental care, although it is best to think of dental insurance as being similar to having a coupon that provides discounts for covered services and has a fixed dollar value (i.e. your annual maximum). A few basic services may be covered at no additional cost (covered via your insurance premiums), but with most plans, you may still be responsible for at least a portion for most services, although at a discounted fee, due to contractual agreements between your insurance carrier and our office.

The current healthcare market has resulted in insurance plans transferring more and more of the financial responsibility of health care to the patient. Many insurance plans require copays, deductibles, and/or co-insurance in amounts that are unknown to both the patient and the dental office at the time of the visit.

We will do our best to estimate your portion based on whatever information is available to us by your insurance carrier, and this portion is due at the time of service. However, there will be times when our estimate will be less than what your payment obligation is, in which case we can charge a credit card on file or send you a text and/or email reminder of your payment due. In order to be environmentally friendly and minimize paper waste, we will not be sending out paper statements. Please make sure we have accurate information on file for you. In cases where our estimate exceeded what you owe once insurance has paid your claim, we will gladly issue you a refund for any over-payment or keep a credit on your account, whichever you prefer.
