Dr. Bana Ball is more than just a board-certified pediatric dentist. In fact, she is a mother of two young children, Nikou and Nila. She loves spending time with her little ones and her husband, Mark, a urologic oncologist at the NIH. Dr. Ball is a comedy enthusiast, a crossword and jigsaw puzzle fan, an adventure traveler, a nature lover, and an aspiring yogi.
Dr. Ball completed her residency training in pediatric dentistry at the University of Maryland, serving as Chief Resident during her final year. As part of Dr. Ball’s residency training, she co-wrote the Guidelines on Restorative Dentistry for the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, based on an extensive evidence-based review of the dental literature, giving her unparalleled expertise in dental materials.
After attending Centre College on a full academic scholarship and graduating summa cum laude, she received her dental degree with honors from the University of Pennsylvania in 2010, graduating at the top of her class. She worked as a general dentist for a few years after dental school, and it was during this time that she realized her passion for working with children. Returning to school for specialty training in pediatric dentistry became an easy choice, and she hasn’t looked back since. Dr. Ball considers it an honor and a privilege to be entrusted with caring for children.
Dr. Bana Ball has completed the rigorous certification process by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD). Her certification displays her dedication to excellence in the field of pediatric dentistry and showcases her continued education, so you can rest assured that your children are receiving up-to-date, effective treatment from an expert who truly cares. All pediatric dentists (in contrast to general dentists or “family dentists”) have an additional 2-3 years of specialized training, but not all pediatric dental specialists are board certified. Board Certification shows a commitment to providing the highest level of care.
At Shady Grove Pediatric Dentistry, we create treatment plans for every child based on their own personal dental profile. With a non-corporate, non-cookie-cutter approach to dentistry, your child will always see the same dentist for continuity of care. We work as a team alongside parents to provide evidence-based, minimally invasive, and conservative dental treatment options.

Yolanda has been a part of Shady Grove Pediatric Dentistry since we opened our doors in June 2020. She and Dr Ball met while the office build-out was under construction in the spring of 2020, and Yolanda enthusiastically signed on to go on the journey of opening and starting a new pediatric dental practice together. Yolanda is a native of Montgomery County and had years of previous experience in the pediatric dental field in an administrative role. She completed the required training to become a dental assistant & radiology technician, so that she could transition into a clinical role and spend more time chairside with our patients, which is the part of her job she enjoys the most. Her multifaceted skill set has made her an invaluable multi-tasker and employee extraordinaire.
When Yolanda originally started in her position, she had a 12 year old son, but now she also has a baby girl who keeps her busy. Yolanda enjoys cheering at her son's soccer games and spending time with her toddler. Yolanda loves interacting with children and making them feel comfortable in our office. She has a warm personality and a can-do attitude, always willing to lend a hand wherever needed. You can also count on her to always be up-to-date on all the latest kids' shows and Disney movies, which comes in handy when she is helping patients choose something to watch on our ceiling-mounted TVs during their visits.

Charisse has been in the pediatric dental field for over 2 decades. She joined our team in 2023 and has been a wonderful addition to our crew. Her calm demeanor, soothing voice and ability to connect with children, not to mention her exceptional radiography skills are just a few of her positive qualities. Charisse loves to joke around and make people laugh. Her sense of humor is one of the things we love most about her.
Charisse is married to a professional chef and loves to spend time in the kitchen with him, trying out new recipes. She has an adult son, who is the light of her life, and she raised him right here in Montgomery County. Charisse also loves to travel, and she's not afraid to go to faraway places. In the past few years, she has visited the Maldives and has taken several trips to South Africa.
